Sowing to secure embankment in Ronneburg

Client: Bundesgartenschau Gera-Ronneburg 2007 GmbH

Time period: 2004 until 2007

The erosion protection concept for this virgin soil site with strongly fluctuating pH values was to employ a wide range of plants to achieve greening without additional topsoil. This was achieved by creating specific microstructures in the course of profiling, selection of species and a covering of hay as a germination and growth aid. Emphasis was placed on acquiring a community of plants that could both live on the virgin soil and offer it long-term stability. Directly after the creation of the first areas it became apparent that erosion could be effectively hindered straight away.
