Zschopauaue Frankenberg (water meadows)
Master plan
With its various castles, the mid Zschopau valley is a region with major tourist potential. Large sections were inaccessible for a long time. The major flood of 2002 gave rise to a rethink and redevelopment of the river bank areas. Frankenberg is one of the largest towns on the river and has plans to develop itself into a tourist destination. The project involves many different aspects:- Opening of the town to the river- Recreation of the ecosystems and water meadows of the river- Conversion of the area from industrial to leisure landscape- Supraregional interlinking of leisure areas, cycling and hiking trails- Flood protection will be a design element of the future meadow bank area of the ZschopauThe wild beauty of the Zschopau links all attractions together on its blue ribbon. The master plan develops strategies for gradual implementation in association with active flood protectionThe concept involved the area applying to host the 2012 State Graden Show, together with Lichtenau and Niederwiesa . The motto "RECREATION BY THE RIVER! means both the easing of the flooding situation and an area of recreation and recuperation for people and animals.
